The Cyberpunk Project Presents ELECTRONIC MINDS If you read a Cyberpunk manifesto, by Christian Kirtchev, you probably noticed the intro and outro addressing a group, called "Electronid Minds". The intention was to bring forward a group by presenting its manifesto. By the time manifesto was published (1997) digital underground groups were ruling the Bulletin Board System (BBS) domains of data and information exchange. Electronic Minds however was never announced elsewhere as a group in digital underground quality or otherwise. Instead Electronic Minds was a borader concept, designed to stretch beyond social bonds of interaction. For that essential detail of the cyberpunk manifesto and its meaning, Kristiyan Kirchev has dedicated a small paperback book available online under the name, "Electronic Minds: Hypothesis, Observations and Theory on Preprogrammed Digital Sequences in Natural Evolution to Cyberspace". CYBERPUNKS: REBOOT YOUR BRAIN With a Cyberpunk Manifesto from Christian Kirtchev, Timothy Leary's revision developes the notion that ourbrains are only in operation when they are slamming bytes and bits of information back and forth—multimedia communication. They want to hook up with other brains. In his semi-anarchic philosophy, Tim Leary's editor describes a future where we don't do cyberwear to pilot the electronic fields. Work and creating will take place in `Screenland' - another word for Cyberia, cyberspace. History of Cyberpunk Intro ...The free human mind, creating the future, brings us to the new age - the Cyber Age. The inventing of the electricity and the telephone marks the beginning of the rise of the mankind. Broadcasting of sounds and images changed the human life forever... With every new invention, the world - a child of the new age - was growing. Mankind saw millions of new opportunities. The Computer was the biggest invention of the human race ever made after the discovery of electricity. This invention of the seething intelligence became the most used one in daily life... This new invention opened a door to a new dimension - the cyberworlds also known as Virtual Reality. The computer-synthesized worlds were the brand new technology, taking more and more victims... After those events the world could never be the same again... The new age was begot the first crime to the electronic world. The Cyber Age brought us more violence and more hatred in human's souls, more pain and more suffering... The crimes were moving to the new world, the world of 1's and 0's... New communities rose from the data world. Hackers, FreeJacks and Phreakers were the new rulers of this world. They brought the chaos into the new creation, but they also brought the knowledge to the mass, too. The Cyberpunks - offspring of the Cyber Age become the culture of the new world. Cyberpunk as a Subculture "Cyberpunk escaped from being a literary genre intocultural reality. People started calling themselves cyberpunks, or the media started calling people cyberpunks. The first people to identify themselves as cyberpunks were adolescent computer hackers who related to the street-hardened characters and the worlds created in the books of William Gibson, Bruce Sterling,John Shirley, and others. Cyberpunk hit the front page of the New York Times when some young computer kids were arrested for cracking a government computer file. The Times called kids "cyberpunks". Finally, cyberpunk has come to be seen as a generic name for a much larger trend more or less describing anyone who relates to the cyberpunk vision. This, in turn, has created a purist reaction among the hard-core cyberpunks, who feel they got there first." -- R.U.Sirius, Mondo 2000: A Users Guide to the New Edge The word 'cyberpunk' was originally a marketing term applied to Science Fiction writings of William Gibson and Douglas Rushkoff, but was soon taken up by many Internet users as a description of a lifestyle, culture or community to which they imagine they belong. So cyberpunk became the way of thinking and attitude for many people in the Net and in so called Real Life. This is due to the fact that they correctly noticed the seeds of the fictional world of cyberpunk in Western society today. Our world is evolving into a typical 'cyberpunk-world': the rising amount of technology in our everyday lives - we thrive and survive on technology, the developement of the cities into huge 'sprawls', drugs and crime. All these aspects of our culture fit nicely into the world of cyberpunk - the future now. So, the world from the works of Gibson and "Blade Runner" is becoming a stark reality. General Topic: The cyberpunk literary movement, how it portrayed the present modern, multiformed society.

Thesis Statement: The cyberpunk movement represents the "future dystopia" its authors affirmed to become tangible in their fiction works, although their creativity and arguments ultimately became today's reality.

Product description: An investigation concerning the journey of cyberpunk narrative, its manifesto and what factors led the authors to "predict their future". Novels, stories, films and other creative works will be compared one to the other to support this.

Mentor or possible mentors: None.

Other information: Other "dystopic" genres will be researched and informed about as well, many falling under the sci-fi category. Cultural and individual response to present and past society will be researched too.
